I. INFORMATION ON ENROLMENT FOR FRENCH COURSES

How to register :

  • This university degree is open to anyone with a secondary school leaving certificate. This course gives access to student status.
  • The Language Service (SDL) offers levels A1 to B2, with a C1 group available on request if sufficient numbers register.
  • Students from outside Europe require a long-stay student visa.

Registration for the September 2024 session or for the 2024-2025 year must be sent to us by e-mail, no later than 30 June 2024.
Registration for the January 2025 session or from January to December 2025 must be sent to us by e-mail, no later than 1 December 2024.

For people who need to apply for a visaIf you are applying for a visa, it is advisable to register in advance. The application must be made in advance, so that you can be sure of getting your visa and starting the course on the scheduled date.
Information on applying for a student visa

  • For the pre-registrationTo register, you must return the completed registration form, dated and signed, together with the required documents (ID, birth certificate, diploma, rules and regulations) and payment of the deposit. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  •  L'final booking is validated on site. Other documents are required to finalise your application on arrival (CVEC certificate, visa or residence permit for students from outside Europe), see page 6. Once these formalities have been completed, you will be able to obtain student status and a student card.

II. INFORMATION ON FRENCH COURSES

Proposed levels

From beginner (level A1) to advanced (level B2).
On the first day, you will be assessed by a test which will enable us to place you in a group corresponding to your language level.

Teaching approach

The teaching objectives are defined according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Use of a textbook and exercise book (provided by the centre).

  • Communicative activities using different media (audio, video, press, etc.)
  • Language learning combined with active discovery of the city of Avignon and Provence (meetings, interviews, treasure hunts...)
  • Language learning combined with individual and/or group projects
Contents
Each course focuses on a particular skill: listening, speaking, reading and writing, with complementary courses available at different levels.
  • Phonetics (up to B1 level): 1? hours per week
  • Culture and society: from 1h30 to 3h per week depending on level
Complementary activities

Optional workshops are available (film club, theatre, song, etc.).
Students can register for the University's cultural and sporting activities.
Advanced students may attend certain university courses (history, literature, law, etc.) as free auditors (subject to availability). Auditors may attend courses but may not sit the corresponding exams.

The association Exchanges/ESN is a student association whose aim is to promote the integration of foreign students at the university and encourage encounters with French students. Throughout the year, it organises sightseeing trips, cultural outings and evening events.

Certificates and examinations
Students are assessed regularly as part of this diploma.
At the end of the semester, they can obtain a transcript of records and a university diploma corresponding to their level (value: 30 ECTS credits). ADCUEFE.
Hosting
The Language Service can help students find accommodation in Avignon, in a private residence.

Admission process:

  • This university diploma is open to any person with a secondary studies diploma. It provides a student status.
  • The Languages Service (SDL) offers courses from the A1 to the B2 level.
  • Non-European students must take a long stay student visa.

Information on
the Student and Campus Life Contribution (CVEC).

Pre-admission is official on reception of the completed and signed application form, and all the required documents listed in the form (page 6). The final registration is validated on the premises after having filled and signed the " Administrative Registration " (Inscription Administrative) accompanied with all the required documents (and particularly a long-stay visa valid for all the training period for students outside the European Economic Area). After completing all those formalities, you will be granted a student card.


Two academic sessions per year:

2024-2025 :

Session 1: From 9 September to 20 December 2024 (welcome week from 2 to 6 September 2024)

Session 2: From 27 January to 16 May 2025 (forecast) - (welcome week from 20 to 24 January 2025 - forecast). An actual timetable will be provided with the timetable.

*The welcome week and placement test are reserved for students already enrolled.

Tuition fees

  • for one semester: €600 deposit on pre-registration and €900 balance to be paid before the start of the course, i.e. €1,500
  • for two semesters: €900 deposit on pre-registration and €600 balance to be paid before the start of the first semester. Then a €600 deposit in November-December and a €700 balance to be paid before the start of the second semester, i.e. €2,800.

The pre-registration will be valid only after advance payment has been made.

II. INFORMATION ON FRENCH COURSES

Levels
From beginner (level A1) to advanced (level B2).
On the first day, you will take a written evaluation test allowing you to integrate a group according to your language level.

Pedagogical approach
Pedagogical objectives are defined according to the CECRL : Common European Framework of Reference for Language

Use of a handbook and an exercise book provided by the Languages Service.

  • Communicative activities based on different media (audio, video, press...)
  • Language learning associated with an active discovery of the city of Avignon and the Provence area (meetings, interviews, treasure hunt, etc.)
  • Language learning associated with individualized/collective projects

Contents
Each course emphasises a main competence: oral comprehension, oral production, written comprehension, written production.

According to the levels, complementary courses are proposed:

  • Phonetics (up to B1 level): 1h30 per week
  • Culture and society : from 1h30 to 3h per week according to the levels

Complementary activities

Optional workshops can be proposed (cinema, theatre, singing...)
Students can also take the sports and culture activities offered by the university. Advanced students may be allowed to attend some standard classes (history, literature, law, etc.) as simple auditors/ free listeners (depending on the number of places available).

Echanges/ESN is a student association whose goal is to favour the integration of foreign students and their meeting with French students. They propose several activities throughout the year, such as touristic and cultural visits, student nights, etc.

Within this diploma, students are submitted to regular evaluation.

At the end of the semester, they can obtain a transcript and a university diploma according to their level (value: 30 ECTS credits).

The "Diplôme d'Université d'Etudes Françaises" (DUEF) is recognised by all centres member of the ADCUEFE.

Accommodation
The Languages service can help student with finding an accommodation in Avignon, either with a host family, or in a private residence.

Two training sessions per academic year

2024-2025 :

  • Session 1 : From 9 September to 20 December 2024 (Welcome week from 2 to 6 September 2024)
  • Session 2 : from 27 January to 16 May 2025 (provisional) (Welcome week from 20 to 24 January 2025 - provisional). An actual timetable will be provided with the timetable.

Rates for 2024-2025

  • for one semester : 600 deposit on pre-registration and €900 balance to be paid before the course starts, i.e. 1500€
  • for two semesters : 900 deposit on pre-registration and €600 balance to be paid before the start of the first semester. Then a €600 deposit in November-December and a €700 balance to be paid before the start of the second semester, i.e. 2800€

To be valid, the pre-registration request must be validated by the payment of a deposit.

ATTENTION

The Language Service will be closed for the summer holidays from the evening of 13 July to the evening of 20 August 2023 inclusive.

  • Monday: 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm,
  • Tuesday: 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm,
  • Wednesday: 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm,
  • Thursday: 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm,
  • Friday: closed to the public
